Yes, it’s registered as a 1997 “PURPLE ROVER COUPE”. It’s newer than my SW20 MR2. I bet he’s the envy of all the Mini owners
Found a Mazda 929 at the wreckers. Not a TURBO ROTARY and without the split B-pillar, but awesome anyway.
Shit photo. But I love these popups
One of the millions of Mazda badge styles around the 80s/90s
I guess there’s no need for a windowed pillar if you can get air out of it.
BUTTONS. STALK-MOUNTED SWITCHES
MOAAAAR BUTTONS
Short story time:
While I was at work on Friday a little plastic tab in my brake pedal broke, activating the MR2's brake lights all day and completely draining the battery. Why did they use plastic? Thankfully every Toyota ever uses the same tab, as does the clutch pedal though it’s not required, so it wasn’t hard to fix.
Today I was followed by a newer MR2, also green, also topless. Then I saw an Exige. Later, a sneaky thumbs up to an E-type driver: was reciprocated.
My phone shat itself hard today. So I’m getting a new one. Very excited.

Well I’m definitely jealous of the MINI.

That Mazda still looks like it could be saved. What a shame.
Love the colour of that mini too - don’t see too many in that colour. I personally prefer morello purple myself though.

I prefer the purple too. Are these factory colors!?!? What years were they available?
Junkyard cars often look like that. But people take all sorts of things out of them, to the point where you’d need another one to make it complete, and even then...
Also the fact that it almost certainly was non-running when it arrived.

I’ve purchased a Oneplus 3T. I’m sure its 6gb of RAM is mostly going to come to nothing, but if it’s half as good as phones $300 more expensive I’ll be happy.

Yep! Both Purples are factory colours. The one you spotted was ‘Amaranth’, and was first availible on the limited edition Equinox trim cars in 1996, and then carried onto all cars when the cars were updated in October ‘96. It lasted a few years I think, but somewhat unsurpisingly, wasn’t too popular, and then got replaced by ‘Morello Purple’ - which was far darker, and slightly redder. This was even less popular. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a Mini painted this colour, though I’ve spotted plenty of others Rovers painted with it. Towards the end of production, Rover were constantly making little changes to the Mini, and not letting anyone know (there are at least 3 variations of a supposedly identical Brochure), so I’m afraid I don’t know when they stopped using it, though it didn’t make it onto any of the final run of cars in 2000.
Certainly a shame that the 929, though there were probably no end of issues with it that the pictures don’t show. At least other cars can stay on the road because of the parts from it.

That’s amazing. And you’re something of an expert sir if I do say.
The humble Nissan 300ZX was built for 10-11 years, and the 2000 cars with rare equipment are absolutely revered. I can only imagine this effect would be amplified 10x on a car as loved as the Mini, and built for as long as the Mini was. Makes the 300ZX look like a passing fad. This ‘97 Amaranth must be rare as hen’s teeth! I’m very glad I bothered uploading a shitty photo here.
Thanks :D

thanks! Glad all that knowledge is finally useful for something haha
Yeah, 2000 minis are fairly popular, though surprisingly easy to find if you know where to look, but certain versions or colours are far rarer - you don’t see many purple ones at all.
I’d also love to own 300zx - that was my go-to car on Gran Turismo as a kid :P I always forget how long they were made for, though given how well their design has aged, it’s hardly a surprise.

Are you in England? I’d have to guess they aren’t that popular in Australia.
That was your go-to!? I thought everyone went with Skylines like I did. But I wasn’t a good driver, needed the traction ;)
I agree they’ve aged well. Also most of the world only got them ‘til ‘96, I think it’s only Japan that got them until 2000. Lots of people (ahem Americans) think ‘96 was the end of them.

Yeah, I’m in England, so that might have something to do with it haha. Given what minis are like, I can’t see them being ideal for Australia.
Yeah, for some reason, whenever I started making progress on the game, I’d go to the used car dealer and get a 300ZX. I probably had just as many skyline so, but for some tracks, they didn’t have as much of an advantage, and once you started adding the performance bits, the 390 could keep up with some pretty quick cars.
Yeah, I’d thought production of them ended a little earlier, so that explains that haha.

Definitely not. We’re not as highway driven as the US, but we do have plenty of highways and long 100km/hr roads. Moog from MightyCarMods has a JDM Mini, says it’s constantly screaming in 4th at 100 :(
Awesome! I do the same thing but I’m a special case. Good to hear I’m not alone ;)

Yeah, most of the roads round me are slowish country roads, so I can just about get away with it haha no idea what I’d do if I had to go on highways a lot - 4 gears aren’t enough at all haha.

Oh man. I don’t know how you live. A lot of our nice long roads are being cut down to 80km/hr because my state is full of nazis, that alone is killing me. Country roads are supposed to be fast!
But I guess when you’re in such a car, those roads are a godsend :)

Haha yeah, it’s not too bad in tiny little cars most people have round here - there’s always plenty of roads you take your car to stretch its legs a little if you need to as well, so not all bad. It helps that the UK isn’t very big either - even a really long journey won’t take more than a day unless you do something really crazy.

Hey that’s all you really need :) Everything is bigger in Australia since there’s so damn much space. And my MR2 gets a bit dwarfed by the bigger cars and without having a 6th. But it’s good times.
